Ann Arbor, MI – January 9, 2010 – Avicenna Medical Systems, Inc, a leading provider of chronic disease management systems and clinical procedure documentation, and Owens & Minor, Inc., (NYSE: OMI) a FORTUNE 500 and the leading distributor of national name-brand medical and surgical supplies and a healthcare supply chain management company, announced today the general availability (GA) of the AviDocs-Qsight interface. This interface greatly simplifies the workflow and accuracy of the procedural documentation performed in Electrophysiology (EP) labs.
“This interface saves valuable time spent on documentation by highly-trained and expensive clinical personnel during Electrophysiology study, ablation, cardioversion, and other EP clinical procedures.” said Khaled El-Safty, Avicenna’s co-founder and CTO. “Additionally, because the interface is completely automated, it greatly reduces the potential for human error while inputting a patient’s Medical Record Number (MRN) or associating the report of medical supplies used in an EP procedure to the wrong patient. At the end of an EP procedure a completed clinical report, including supplies and equipment used, is ready to be electronically transmitted to the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and billing system.”
Avicenna’s clinical procedure documentation product, called AviDocs EPTM, incorporates procedure documentation, professional and facility billing, quality assurance, and inventory management in a simple user-friendly interface.
OMI’s Qsight Clinical Supply Solutions (CSS) is a clinical supply capture, inventory management, and revenue enhancement service enabled by a proprietary web-based technology platform.
At the start of the case, CSS receives an inbound HL7 ADT feed from the EMR containing critical patient information (i.e., name, MRN, DOB, age, gender, etc.). CSS also receives a case number from AviDocs. At the end of the case, CSS produces an HL7-formatted outbound file that is read by AviDocs to produce the complete procedure report.
